The essence of my approach is to support people in feeling rooted, safe, and held, while also gently encouraging growth, resilience, and renewed connection with themselves.

Reiki has been shown in multiple clinical studies to support activation of the parasympathetic nervous system, promoting relaxation, reduced heart rate, and lowered cortisol levels.

Recent research has also demonstrated Reiki’s effectiveness in reducing anxiety, improving sleep quality, easing pain, and supporting emotional regulation — all areas where people statistically experience significant unmet need.

FACTS ABOUT CLINICAL REIKI

Reiki works without requiring verbal disclosure. For many, this makes it a particularly accessible form of therapeutic support, especially when dealing with grief, burnout, illness, or major life transitions. Each session is shaped around you, and recognising that no two people—and no two moments—are ever the same. Clients come to Reiki for many reasons: to support rest and relaxation, to navigate stress or emotional overwhelm, to complement medical treatment, or simply to take time for themselves in a world that rarely slows down.

While science continues to explore and refine its understanding of Reiki, many of the following studies echo what my clients often feel in the treatment room: a softening, a release, and a reconnection with themselves. Reiki is not about forcing change, but about creating a nurturing space where your body and mind can naturally rebalance—inviting calm, clarity, and a renewed sense of inner harmony to unfold.

The gentle unfolding of UK-based research on how Reiki can support health and wellbeing in a deeply holistic way is emerging. For example, a randomised controlled trial conducted at Goldsmiths, University of London study on Reiki and wellbeing found that participants who received Reiki experienced meaningful improvements in mood, particularly those struggling with anxiety and depression, with benefits still present weeks after treatment. Earlier work from UK academic institutions, such as the systematic review from the Universities of Exeter & Plymouth, also identified positive effects in clinical trials, including reductions in depression, stress, pain and anxiety when Reiki was compared with control conditions. Beyond individual trials, organisations like the UK Reiki Council highlight evidence suggesting that gentle touch therapies, including Reiki, can contribute to measurable pain relief and improved wellbeing, while some studies even indicate improvements in cognitive function and emotional balance in vulnerable groups.

In a more recent clinical trial, Clinical study on Reiki for cancer symptom relief (2024), patients receiving Reiki alongside conventional cancer care—such as cancer infusion treatments—reported immediate feelings of relaxation, emotional release, and symptom relief, often expressing a desire for further Reiki sessions. Studies from Frontiers in Psychology 2024–2025 also show measurable decreases in stress and pain after even short Reiki sessions, alongside improvements in sleep, wellbeing, and emotional balance.

A more recent 2025 meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials, Effects of Reiki therapy on quality of life, found that Reiki significantly improved overall quality of life across diverse groups, including people living with chronic illness and even healthy participants, with notable reductions in stress, anxiety, pain, and fatigue.

While science continues to call for larger trials, the direction is clear: Reiki is increasingly recognised as a gentle, supportive, holistic and complementary therapy that nurtures the whole person—body, mind, and spirit.
